Laura B. Allen, a clinical psychologist and postdoctoral scholar with the Pediatric Pain Program at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, was one of six recipients of the 2010 Chancellor's Award for Postdoctoral Research. The prize recognizes research accomplishments that show clear potential to have meaningful and enduring implications in the researcher's field.

Allen's work focuses on relationships between emotion regulation strategies and pain responses, developing psychological treatments for adolescents who suffer from chronic pain along with anxiety and/or depression, and the genetic correlations of chronic pain and psychological symptoms in children, parents, and siblings.

Her future goals include plans to continue to design and develop unique lines of research, which will focus on psychobiological responses to pain in the context of emotion regulation strategies, understanding mechanisms of emotion regulation and pain, and developing interventions for chronic pain.
