About

Dr. Johnson received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. Prior to medical school he was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Melbourne in Australia and during medical school he was a Fogarty Scholar at the International Center for Diarrheal Diseases Research, Bangladesh. Dr. Johnson went on to complete a dual residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Utah. During residency he pursued training in tropical and HIV medicine while attending the Gorgas Course in Clinical Tropical Medicine in Lima, Peru. Throughout his final year of residency he gained clinical experience in HIV primary care medicine seeing patients in the University of Utah Clinic 1A.

Dr. Johnson joined the UCLA faculty in February of 2018 and splits his time between the Santa Monica Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Comprehensive Care Center, the UCLA CARE Clinic, UCLA Health for Bruins, and the Venice Family Clinic. In Santa Monica he sees patients with urgent medical needs in the Evaluation and Treatment Center. At UCLA Health for Bruins he provides primary care for students and young adults. At the CARE Clinic Dr. Johnson provides both immediate and primary care for patients with HIV, as well as preventative services (PrEP) for adolescents and adults at risk for HIV infection. He is actively involved in teaching UCLA medical students and residents.

Dr. Johnson is also interested in global health, travel medicine, and the medical humanities.

In his spare time he enjoys surfing, telemark skiing, drumming, writing, and traveling.
