Dr. Bui is a Professor of Radiological Sciences, Bioengineering, and Bioinformatics; and Director of the UCLA Medical & Imaging Informatics (MII) group. He holds the David Geffen Chair in Informatics. His primary research interests include distributed health information systems, including mHealth; methods using observational data sources (e.g., the electronic health record, EHR), including translational applications and evaluation of AI-based methods for healthcare (e.g., machine and reinforcement learning); and data visualization. He has extensive experience in leading NIH grants from across multiple different institutes (NIBIB, NCI, NLM, NINDS, NIMHD) in areas related to biomedical informatics. He is currently a Senior Associate Director for UCLA’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), overseeing informatics services and training; Associate Director for Medical Informatics in the Institute for Precision Health (IPH); Co-Director of the Center for SMART Health; and Director for UCLA’s Medical Informatics Home Area program.
