08/01/2011
UCLA Radiological Sciences is pleased to announce that Dr. Ines Boechat, founding World Federation Board Chair and a former president of the North American Society for Pediatric Radiology, has been selected as the first president of the
World Federation of Pediatric Imaging.
The WFPI provides a voice for Pediatric Radiology organizations united to address challenges in global pediatric imaging, including the allocation of resources, promoting education, and advocating appropriate imaging guidelines to benefit children worldwide. Founding Board members include M. Ines Boechat, MD; Dorothy Bulas, MD; Pedro Daltro, MD; Goya Enriquez, MD; In-One Kim, MD; Catherine Owens, MD; Gloria Soto, MD and David Springer, MD.
"It is an incredible honor for me to be selected as the first President of the WFPI and to see a long cherished dream come to fruition," Dr. Boechat said. "Having worked extensively with Latin American, North American and European pediatric radiologists over the past 30 years, and seen the tremendous differences in practice methods and resources available around the world, it became increasingly clear to me that the integration of efforts would benefit all of us. That is my hope and inspiration for the World Federation of Pediatric Imaging."
Dr. Boechat is originally from Brazil and joined the Department of Radiological Sciences at UCLA in 1982. She has served on numerous UC, national and international committees; was President of the American Association for Women Radiologists in 2000 and of the Society for Pediatric Radiology in 2009, the second University of California faculty to receive such a distinction.
