The TrueBeam system from Varian Medical Systems expands radiotherapy treatment options for even the most challenging cases, such as cancers in the head and neck, lung, breast and abdomen.
It offers many different types of advanced treatment techniques including image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), RapidArc ® radiotherapy technology and Gated RapidArc.
TrueBeam makes it possible to perform accurate image-guided treatments faster, with most treatments taking just minutes a day. The system also features sophisticated motion-management capabilities, which include an advanced “respiratory gating” option for synchronizing beam delivery with respiration. This helps maintain accuracy as the system adjusts its targeting whenever tumor motion is an issue, for example during lung cancer treatments.
In terms of imaging, TrueBeam generates high-quality 3-D cone-beam CT images 60% faster than was possible with earlier generations of Varian imaging technology. Additional functionality makes it possible to create images using 25% less X-ray dose.
If your patients have questions or concerns about comfort, you can be confident in recommending TrueBeam. It is noninvasive and fast, and was designed to address patient comfort. Enhanced communication technology enables constant interaction between the radiation therapist operating the system and the patient. Further enhancements allow music to be played during treatment, which can help create a more soothing treatment environment.
** The TrueBeam system may not be appropriate for all cancers. Serious side effects can occur, including fatigue and skin irritation. Treatment times may vary. Patients should ask their doctor if TrueBeam is right for their particular case.
