Helpful resources and link for patients of Adult Partial Hospitalization Program, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA.

Group participation is the primary therapeutic treatment modality. The program integrates psycho-educational, psychotherapeutic, and activity based groups to foster hope, self-determination and empowerment in the healing process.

While in the program, the groups will help patients develop effective coping and interpersonal skills. The primary components of the program consist of:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Coping Skills
  • Interpersonal Skills and Personal Growth
  • Group Therapy
  • Mental Health Education
  • Occupational Therapy

Examples of groups include: Goal Setting, Anger Management, Symptom Management, Self-Esteem, Stress Management, Coping Skills, Relapse Prevention, Assertiveness, Communication Skills, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Skills Training, and Process Group.

Within APHP there is a component for patients with co-occurring substance abuse issues. Patients in this program get help maintaining sobriety through cognitive behavioral therapies, psycho-educational groups, 12-step orientation, and recovery skills groups. Patients with co-occurring substance abuse issues must be motivated to maintain sobriety. Patients who are unable to maintain sobriety while in the program may be referred to a higher level of care. The focus of the co-occurring component is to assist patients in establishing ongoing relapse prevention skills.

The average length for the Adult PHP is 6-8 weeks. For the first several weeks in the program, patients are expected to come in five days a week from 9 am to 3 pm. After the first several weeks, the frequency of participation, both in number of days per week and number of hours per day, is reduced gradually. The patient will work with their treatment team to create a structured schedule for when their days and hours in the program are reduced.
