WHAT:
Nonprofit organization Rock Against Cancer, with the support of the Hot Topic Foundation, will present a $10,000 donation to support the music therapy program at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA. After the check presentation, UCLA's music therapist will demonstrate music therapy with pediatric patients and their siblings.

BACKGROUND:
Music therapy is the prescribed use of music and musical interventions in order to restore, maintain and improve emotional, physical and spiritual health and well-being. An established health profession similar to occupational or physical therapy, music therapy may be prescribed by members of a child's treatment team, including doctors, social workers, child-life specialists, teachers, psychologists and caseworkers. Rock Against Cancer is a nonprofit organization advocating for kids with cancer at the local, state and national level. The Hot Topic Foundation aims to support programs and organizations that specifically focus on encouraging and educating youth in music, creative writing, painting, photography, filmmaking and related activities.
