Assessment & Decision Tools
The UCLA Stroke Center has developed several assessment and decision tools for use by physicians, nurses, allied health personnel, and patients and families. These tools are all freely available for use under a Creative Commons Attribution licensce - anyone may download, use, reprint, modify, and distribute these tools, so long as the original authors and sources are cited.
- Visual Decision Aid for TPA Treatment within 3 Hours of Onset
A patient and family decision aid that depicts the benefits and risks of thrombolytic stroke therapy.
- Los Angeles Prehospital Stroke Screen (LAPSS)
A brief assessment to identify stroke patients in the field, for use by paramedics and emergency medical technicians
- Los Angeles Motor Scale (LAMS)
A brief scale to rate severity of stroke deficits, for use by paramedics and emergency medical technicians
- Rankin Focused Assessment – Mobility (RFA-M)
A structured interview for use by physicians, nurses, study coordinators, and allied health personnel in assigning stroke patients a score on the modified Rankin Scale that reflects their current, post-stroke level of global disability based on a patient’s mobility.
- Rankin Focused Assessment – Ambulation (RFA-A)
A structured interview for use by physicians, nurses, study coordinators, and allied health personnel in assigning stroke patients a score on the modified Rankin Scale that reflects their current, post-stroke level of global disability based on a patient’s ambulatory status.
