Information, Awareness and Research

  • UNOS, the United Network for Organ Sharing.
    All patients accepted onto a transplant hospital's waiting list are registered with the UNOS Organ Center, where a centralized computer network links all organ procurement organizations and transplant centers.

  • SRTR, the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients website provides all the information currently available in the Statistics, Reports, and Summary sections of the UNOS Transplant Patient Data Source.

  • NMDP, the National Marrow Donor Program, an organization helping patients through stem cell transplantation.

  • The Roche Organ Transplantation Research Foundation is a registered Medical Research Charity whose mission is to advance the science of organ transplantation by supporting research programs through operating grants directly allocated to research projects .

  • TransWeb, a comprehensive transplant-oriented website, which includes current statistics, news items, donation issues, patient education, and an excellent reference section.

  • Lifegift's mission is to provide community benefit by ethically, effectively and efficiently recovering appropriately transplantable organs and tissue to give the gift of life.

  • Organ Donation, an informational site sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

  • Coalition on Donation is a not-for-profit alliance of local coalitions and national organizations who have joined forces to promote organ and tissue donation.

  • Donor Alliance is a nonprofit organization that facilitates the recovery and donation of organs and tissues in Colorado and Wyoming.

  • Transplant Awareness, Inc. (TAI) is a nonprofit corporation run and operated by volunteers who are all organ transplant recipients. Products designed to increase organ donor awareness (such as T-shirts and license plate frames) are offered for sale. The site also has an impressive Transplant Resource Guide.

  • Transplant Communications, Inc., a twice-monthly online newsletter providing up-to-the-minute information on developments in organ, tissue, eye, and bone marrow procurement and transplantation.

  • The Eurotransplant Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to encourage organ transplantation. See transplant issues from a European perspective! Another comprehensive site with links to newsgroups, online journals, and other transplant organizations.

  • The National Foundation for Transplants is a national non-profit organization that offers a program of healthcare and financial support services and patient advocacy for transplant candidates, recipients, and their families. An excellent resource for fund raising information.

  • The Living Bank International is a non-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement of organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

  • The Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry (ANZDATA) collects a wide range of statistics that relate to the outcomes of treatment of those with stage renal failure.

  • The European Federation of Immunogenetics is dedicated to information relating to Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I).

  • The IMGT/HLA Database is a specialist database for sequences of the human major histocompatibility system.

Patient Support Organizations

  • AAKP, the American Association of Kidney Patients, is a national, non-profit, membership-based, voluntary health organization providing education, support and advocacy services to kidney patients and their families.

  • AKF, the American Kidney Fund, is a national voluntary health organization dedicated to improving the daily lives of people with chronic kidney disease.

  • E-Neph, the complete Web site for the international renal care community.

  • NKF, the National Kidney Foundation, is a voluntary health organization seeking to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and well-being of individuals affected by these diseases, and increase the availability of all organs for transplantation.

  • The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. Its mission is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

  • The American Heart Association is a not-for-profit, voluntary health organization funded by private contributions. Its mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. These include heart attack, stroke (brain attack) and related disorders.

  • The American Liver Foundation is the only national, voluntary non-profit health agency dedicated to preventing, treating and curing hepatitis and all liver diseases through research, education and support groups.

  • CLASS, the Children’s Liver Association for Support Services, is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the emotional, educational, and financial needs of families coping with childhood liver disease and transplantation. Their goal is to be both a service to families and a valuable resource for the medical community.

  • Second Wind Lung Transplant Association, Inc. is dedicated to improving the quality of life for lung transplant recipients, lung surgery candidates, people with related pulmonary concerns and their families, by providing support, love, advocacy, education, information and guidance through a spirit of service, adding years to their lives and life to their years.

  • Organ Transplant Support, Inc. provides support, counseling, education and informational medical programs and materials on transplantation. Members include transplant recipients, candidates, their families and health care professionals.

  • TRIO, Transplant Recipients International Organization, is an independent, not-for-profit, international organization committed to improving the quality of life of transplant candidates, recipients, their families and the families of organ and tissue donors.

  • Transplant Buddies is dedicated to the sharing of feelings and thoughts about the transplant process.

  • The National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF) provides guidance and emotional support to transplant patients by helping families and friends organize, launch, and sustain a fundraising campaign. NTAF also offers grants to eligible candidates.

Professional Organizations

  • NATCO, the North American Transplant Coordinators Organization, is the professional society of more than 1,750 transplant coordinators, and as such, is the largest group of transplant professionals in North America.

  • AST, the American Society of Transplantation, is an organization of 1,300 transplant professionals dedicated to research, education, advocacy and patient care in transplantation science and medicine.

  • ISHLT, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, has over 2200 members from over 45 countries, representing over 10 different disciplines involved in the management and treatment of end-state heart and lung disease.
