WHILE THE DAVID GEFFEN SCHOOL of Medicine at UCLA is a part of the University of California, just 13 percent of its funding actually comes from the state. To help defer some of those costs and assist students, many of whom face debts upon graduation of $100,000 or more, the UCLA Medical Alumni Association encourages each class to raise $100,ooo or more to create an endowed-scholarship fund. Once the goal is reached, the class scholarship will be awarded annually to a current medical student.
