UCLA Health has entered into several affiliations with prominent healthcare providers. “These affiliations offer rare and unique opportunities to join forces and share expertise with other key healthcare providers in collaborations that will be of extraordinary benefit to the people of greater Los Angeles,” says David T. Feinberg, MD (RES ’92), MBA, president of UCLA Health System.

UCLA Health, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Select Medical, which manages and operates several rehabilitation hospitals, announced in December a partnership to create a 138-bed acute rehabilitation facility located in the vacant Century City Doctors Hospital to provide advanced treatment of spinal-cord injuries, brain injuries, stroke and other acute conditions. The new facility, which is slated to be operational by late 2015, will replace UCLA’s existing 11-bed acute rehabilitation unit located in the old UCLA Center for the Health Sciences building and enable UCLA to serve more patients in a better-equipped and more cost-effective setting. The new rehabilitation facility will also provide greater opportunities for clinical education and training of medical residents and professional staff and offer an appropriate venue for inpatient rehabilitation clinical research by UCLA faculty physicians.

UCLA Health and the Motion Picture and Television Fund (MPTF) signed a letter of intent in October to bring the Fund’s six outpatient health centers under the UCLA umbrella. This partnership between two of Los Angeles’s iconic institutions will mean that entertainment-industry members and their families can continue to get healthcare at MPTF facilities while having access to UCLA’s specialty care and inpatient services. This partnership strengthens the relationship between the two organizations, which are already working together on a geriatric psychiatry unit at MPTF’s Wasserman Campus in Woodland Hills, California.

UCLA’s Stein Eye Institute and the Doheny Eye Institute signed a long-term affiliation agreement to create the nation’s preeminent centers for ophthalmic patient care, vision research and education. The Stein Eye-Doheny affiliation will combine the clinical and teaching operations of the two top-tier institutions to expand patient access in Los Angeles, while preserving each organization’s identity and mission. Both organizations are consistently in the top-10 of the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital Rankings for ophthalmology.
