UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind received a $50,000 gift from Lavinia Errico, co-founder of Equinox Fitness Clubs and the Inside Out Movement, to open a state-of-the-art fitness center at Joseph Le Conte Middle School in Los Angeles. On March 18, 2016, Sound Body Sound Mind Foundation founders Bill and Cindy Simon, as well as California State Sen. Kevin de León attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new fitness center, making it the 101st fitness center for the program within the Los Angeles Unified School District.
UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind, formed in 2015 when the Simons committed $3 million to establish a partnership with UCLA Health, is dedicated to fighting childhood obesity by installing fitness programs in middle and high schools. “I’m honored to be affiliated with Sound Body Sound Mind,” said Errico at the ceremony. “Our passions are aligned for inspiring young people to be healthy physically, mentally and emotionally.”
Each year, UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind aims to open 10 new fitness centers in California within the UCLA Health footprint.
