UCLA Health has earned the highest medical technology designation available, Stage 7, from HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society), in the area of analytics. When combined with two previously achieved HIMSS Stage 7 designations – Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) and Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption model (O-EMRAM) – UCLA Health is one of only five organizations worldwide to receive Stage 7 on those three maturity models.

Award validation from HIMSS is based on cumulative mastery of developing and advancing analytics capabilities in eight stages (0-7) of criteria using the Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity (AMAM).

"This recognition represents all of the incredible work in developing and using advanced analytics to make UCLA Health truly state-of-the-art," says Dr. Michael Pfeffer, assistant vice chancellor and chief information officer, UCLA Health and associate clinical professor of medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. "The AMAM is quite a feat to achieve. I am so proud of all the faculty and staff throughout UCLA Health who presented their analytics successes and the UCLA Health Information Technology organization for their unwavering commitment to health technology and analytics."

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UCLA Health became the first organization in North America to participate in a HIMSS virtual validation process. UCLA Health specialists successfully demonstrated for the HIMSS review team the breadth and depth of the analytics maturity of the organization, focusing on how analytics capabilities and culture have influenced operational, financial and clinical areas.

"Being part of both AMAM Stage 6 and Stage 7 validations over the past two years has been a very rewarding experience. Obtaining Stage 7 is truly a validation of our analytical capabilities, governance and culture at UCLA Health. It feels wonderful to be part of a world-class organization," says Andrew Weaver, director of program operations for the UCLA Health Office of Health Informatics and Analytics.

HIMSS Stage 7 validation status is retained for three years and represents the ability to apply analytics to deliver mass customization of patient care, combining personalized medicine with patient-specific prescriptive analytics.
