Without a signed Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) media consent form, the UCLA Health is prohibited by federal law from acknowledging that it provided medical care to a specific individual.
The United Network for Organ Transplantation (UNOS) sets the policies regarding organ transplantation for foreign nationals. The UCLA Health carefully monitors its own numbers and complies with established UNOS guidelines.
UCLA's processes for evaluating a patient — both for mental and physical suitability for organ transplants — are the same regardless of whether the individual is a U.S. citizen or a foreign national.
UCLA has an established fee schedule for international patients receiving organ transplants. Individual costs may vary slightly because each patient has unique medical needs.
The UCLA Health does not make moral judgments about its patients — we treat them based on medical need.
