UCLA Urology is collaborating with other specialists across campus to develop and perfect robotic-assisted and minimally invasive techniques for treating many urologic conditions.
The UCLA Biomechanical Engineering Department has been integral in developing novel biological sensors, instruments, and surgical techniques that can be used in minimally invasive surgery. Our urologists collaborated with the Department of Surgery to open the Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology (CASIT) in 2002 to promote clinical, educational and research use of surgical robots, such as the da Vinci Robot, and digital imaging in surgery and medicine. Using a robotic surgical system, urologists at UCLA are able to perform operations more precisely than ever before and provide our patients with the best outcomes possible.
