David Kuppermann, MD
Dr. Kuppermann obtained his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his internship in General Surgery and Residency in Urology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. His research at the Massachusetts General Hospital included work on the role of active surveillance for prostate cancer . Starting in July of 2021 Dr. Kuppermann will begin a fellowship in Urologic Oncology focusing on the contemporary management of prostate cancer at UCLA. Dr. Kuppermann's current research evaluates novel imaging modalities for the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
Neal Patel, MD
Dr. Patel received his medical degree from George Washington University and subsequently completed his residency in Urology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medicine. He joined the Institute of Urologic Oncology at UCLA to complete a two-year SUO fellowship in Urologic Oncology. Having completed the clinical portion of his fellowship, Dr. Patel will spend the upcoming academic year performing translation kidney cancer research under the guidance of Dr. Brian Shuch, Dr. Lily Wu and Dr. David Shackelford. He will be studying the utility of using a chorioallantoic membrame (CAM) model as a substitute to kidney cancer murine models.
JJ Zhang, MD
Dr. JJ Zhang obtained her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and completed a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) research fellowship at Stanford. She completed her residency in Urology at the Cleveland Clinic and was appointed Clinical Instructor of Surgery for the medical school. Dr. Zhang returns to her undergraduate alma mater of UCLA for a SUO-accredited fellowship in Urologic Oncology. Dr. Zhang is a reviewer for the Journal of Urology and has published numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts in urological journals and other high-impact journals including Science and Nature Medicine. Dr. Zhang’s current clinical and research interests focus on improving radical cystectomy outcomes in bladder cancer, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols in urology, improving surgical disparities, and innovations in robotic surgery.
