Applications for our next cohort of Nursing Volunteers (start date: October 2018) is now open until June 29. You can access the application in Application Process.
The UCLA Department of Nursing Volunteer Program provides pre-nursing students, nursing students, and community members, opportunities to be trained to assist medical center patients and staff. For students, this is a great opportunity to be exposed to the hospital environment and to healthcare from a clinical perspective.
When you choose to volunteer with the nursing department, you are choosing to show how much U care about others. For many patients, young and old, being in the hospital can be a very overwhelming experience. As a volunteer, U can make a difference. Nursing Volunteers will provide companionship to patients, help greet patients and visitors in the units, and assist nursing staff. Volunteers will also have an opportunity to participate in both patient care activities and non-nursing duties. Your presence helps promote a culture of safety and helps provide patients with feelings of comfort and security during their time in the hospital.
We are looking for people interested in a healthcare career; pre-nursing and nursing students, and community members especially retired RNs, LVNs, and CNAs. Must be 18 years or older.
A minimum of one year commitment and 200 hours, at least 4 hours a week. Working with the Clinical Manager, each volunteer will design a schedule that best fits his or her availability and department needs.
