The Blood Disorders Program is led by Dr. Pamela Kempert. The team provides clinical and diagnostic services to patients with non-malignant hematologic disorders, including bleeding disorders, hypercoagulable states, anemias, and disorders of white blood cells and platelets. This includes both bone marrow failure syndromes as well as destructive cytopenias. We have an active consultation service for all of these types of cases and in addition specialize in the diagnosis and management of immunologic dysfunction in organ transplant recipients.

We are a referral center for the State newborn screening program for hemoglobinopathy and a satellite Hemophilia Treatment Center with the Center for Inherited Blood Disorders under the direction of Dr. Diane Nugent. Our team also supervises prophylactic home care for patients with hemophilia and Von Willebrand's disorder.

We hope to begin participation in the next year in phase one through three clinical trials of new anticoagulants in a multicenter pharmaceutical study. We will also be participating in treatment and outcome trials in the treatment of chronic Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura through the ITP Consortium of North America. Dr. Judith Baker, Director of the Western Regional Hemophilia Network-Region 9, and Dr. Diane Nugent, Children's Hospital Orange County, are providing guidance for Dr. Gavin Roach's research in Von Willebrand's disease. For rare hematologic or immunologic disorders, we offer full exome sequencing under the direction of Dr. Vivian Chang.
