Scientific Interests

Dr. Han's research interests are: 1) Development of serum biomarkers for the early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma in at-risk populations including cirrhotic patients and patients with chronic hepatitis B infection. Specifically, he is a co-PI in the NCI U01 Translational Liver Cancer (TLC) Consortium charged with developing methodologies for the early detection of HCC. One specific objective of the TLC is developing a large serum biorepository and database of at-risk patients for longitudinal study. 2) Studying the pathophysiology of hepatitis B-related HCC to try to elucidate the relationship between hepatitis B virologic states, serum biomarkers, and propensity towards HCC development. And 3) Studying the relationship between MR imaging of pre-HCC lesions, serum biomarkers, and propensity towards HCC development.
