What is gynecologic cancer?

Cancer is a disease caused by abnormal cells that grow out of control. If not stopped these cancer cells can spread to other organs in the body. When cancer begins in a woman’s reproductive system, it is called a gynecologic cancer.

At UCLA Obstetrics and Gynecology we care for women with many types of gynecologic cancer and those at high risk for gynecologic cancer based on a their family history and their genes. Our Division of Gynecologic Oncology has a multidisciplinary team of specialists including gynecologic oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, genetic counselors, clinical trial specialists, and other supportive services. It is our mission to provide individualized care in a compassionate environment with the latest technological advances.
