Donations play a key role in developing
new cancer treatments

At UCLA, contributions from individuals provided initial support for groundbreaking cancer treatments in areas such as:

BREAST: Herceptin, developed by UCLA’s Dr. Dennis Slamon, has made the most virulent form of breast cancer—HER2+—now the most treatable.

SKIN: UCLA’s Dr. Antoni Ribas has advanced immunotherapy, a medical breakthrough that harnesses a person’s immune system to fight his or her cancer. This led to the FDA approval of the drug Keytruda for the treatment of melanoma.

LUNG: Keytruda has also received FDA approval for lung cancer as has the drug Cyramza. Approval of both drugs and a test to identify patients with tumors best treated by immunotherapy was led by Dr. Edward Garon at UCLA.

Every new cancer protocol begins with an idea, and the leading source of funding for the early stages of new, pioneering research is individuals like you.
