Scientific Interests

Dr. Leiter is an endocrinologist and cancer researcher whose work focuses on improving outcomes for patients with cancer and diabetes. Dr. Leiter completed a T32 Cancer Prevention and Control at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she developed expertise in analyzing large national cancer datasets to study the intersection of metabolic diseases and cancer. Dr. Leiter’s current research program focuses on improving diabetes care in the context of cancer survivorship. Dr. Leiter is currently developing simulation models (running “simulated” clinical trials) to elucidate optimal diabetes treatment strategies in cancer survivors, with a current focus on breast cancer and prostate cancer. In both her research and clinical practice, Dr. Leiter is also interested in further understanding and improving management of endocrine complications of cancer treatments.
