Pediatric Hematology Resources for Patients

Hospitals can be a confusing and frightening place for children and adolescents. The Child Life/Child Development program is an integral part of UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital. It was established in recognition of the unique needs of pediatric patients and especially the critically and chronically ill. 

Blood is the life-maintaining fluid that circulates through the body's heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries. It carries away waste products and brings nourishment, electrolytes, hormones, vitamins, antibodies, heat, and oxygen to the tissues.

Oncology, the study of cancer and tumors, has made significant progress in the prevention, treatment, and prognosis of many childhood cancers. Despite this progress, cancer is still a chief cause of death by disease in children.
