Lung cancer referrals and consultations

Treating lung cancer effectively requires a team effort. When you refer a patient to UCLA Health or come to us for a lung cancer consultation, we consider you an extension of our team.

Our goal, like yours, is to provide patient-focused and personalized care. At UCLA Health, we bring together specialists from every discipline to treat lung cancer with precision medicine. We have the resources, research and experience to tailor your patient's lung cancer treatment with new and promising therapies.

Why refer your patient to UCLA Health for lung cancer care

As a designated National Cancer Institute (NCI) comprehensive cancer center through the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, we offer care for every aspect of lung cancer. When you partner with UCLA Health to treat lung cancer, you'll find:

Access to the newest therapies: We offer your patient opportunities to participate in lung cancer clinical trials whenever appropriate. Your patient will have access to promising new treatments that may not yet be widely available. Search the clinical trials offered at UCLA Health.

Convenient treatment for distant patients: Our specialists engage and partner with radiation oncologists and medical oncologists outside of our area. That means your patient receives our prescribed treatment close to home, where it's most comfortable.

Expertise in lung cancer: Our lung cancer team has experience and in-depth knowledge of lung cancer that may complement the care you're already providing. Learn more about the UCLA Health lung cancer program.

Focus on precision medicine: Every patient we treat receives advanced and personalized lung cancer treatment. We test every diagnosed lung cancer and get to know our patients. This lets us provide effective treatment tailored to each patient's wishes and needs. Learn more about how we treat lung cancer.

Virtual partnerships: Telehealth makes partnering with the UCLA lung cancer team convenient and easy. We rely on regular correspondence with our referring doctors using both telehealth and instant updates to your patient's emergency medical record (EMR). We promote a true partnership in patient care through strong communication.

How we partner with referring physicians

Most of our lung cancer referrals come from private doctors in the community. We value those professional relationships and work with outside physicians on many levels including:

Physician-to-physician consultation: If you're looking to discuss a patient's treatment plan, we're happy to set up a lung cancer consultation with you. We use a team-based approach to patient care here at UCLA Health. We'd love to be part of your team.

Referral to a specific specialist for one aspect of treatment: You may need our assistance with just one aspect of your patient's care. Our surgeons, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists can partner with you to provide the specific service you need.

Full referral for all multidisciplinary services: If you'd like to place your patient's care completely in our hands, we offer full multidisciplinary services for every stage and type of lung cancer.
