Seeds Migration Issue

• Article: "Radiation Pellets May Leave Prostate Gland After Treatment" by American Cancer Society
• Article: "Radioactive seed migration to the chest after transperineal interstitial prostate brachytherapy: extraprostatic seed placement correlates with migration" By Jeffrey S. Eshleman; Brain J. Dvis; Thomas M. Pisansky; Torrence M. Wilson; Michael G. Haddock; Bernard F. King; Charles H. Darby; Wayne N. Lajoie; and Ann L. Oberg.
  Summary: A clinical investigation of 102 patients who underwent permanent prostate brachytherapy at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, The investigation revealed that one or more seeds were found in chest x-rays of 55 patients out of 100 patients, who are eligible for the study. The study conclude that extraprostatic placement of loose seeds is associate with increased likelihood for, and frequency of seed migration to the thorax (lung). [Abstract], [Full Article]
• Article: "Accurate and efficient detection of pulmonary seed embolization in prostate iodine-125 permanent brachytherapy with a collimated gamma scintillation survey meter" by Qin-Sheng Chen, Henry F. Blaire; Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Mayfield Heights, Ohio 41124, USA.; Medical Physics, May 2003, Vol 30, Issue 5, pp. 785-790.
  Summary: The article showed that a gamma scintillation survey meter is an accurate and efficient equipment to detect implant seeds that could not be seen on a routine radiographs. [Abstract]

Organ Motion Issue

• Article: Organ Motion and Its Management Article by K.M. Langen, PhD and D.T.L. Jones, PhD. Published on International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics, Volume 50, Issue 1, Pages 265-278.
  Summary: The author ended with discussion that "Method to compensate for organ motion are often resource intensive. Their implementation has to be weighed against the potential risk that organ motion may compromise clinical outcomes and may potentially mask the advantages of conformal therapies" [Abstract], [Full Article]
