Sharon Loewenbein, LCSW

Responsibilities

As a Simms Mann UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology clinician, my goals are to provide patients and their families with individualized counseling, support during clinic visits, advocacy within the healthcare system, and empowerment through education and referrals. I also participate as an End of Life Option Act Clinical Consultant for patients and help address concerns and streamline the process at UCLA. 

Training and Professional Experience 

I graduated from U.C. Davis with a degree in International Relations and minor in Art Studio before moving to Washington, D.C. where I worked in the health care and biotech equity research department of an investment bank. Through this experience, I learned that I wanted to have genuine and meaningful face-to-face interactions with people in my professional work. I earned my Masters of Social Work degree at Columbia University and specialized in Health, Mental Health, and Disabilities. During one of my summers as a student, I had the fortuitous opportunity to intern at Simms Mann UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology. My internship proved to be a powerful experience where I realized my passion for oncology social work. After graduating with my MSW, I worked for almost 6 years at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles as the acute surgery, rehabilitation, and perinatal HIV social worker. I feel so privileged to be back at Simms Mann Center for Integrative Oncology and have the opportunity to do the work I love with the population that I am most passionate about. 

Selected Professional Publications and Presentations

Presented at the SoCal Women’s Cancer Conference and participated in Spanish speaking webinars with WeSpark! and Cancer Kinship. The goal of these talks was to reach out to Spanish speakers in the community and provide them with tools for maintaining their physical and emotional well-being while living with cancer. 

Personal Interests 

Surrounding myself with family and friends is my favorite past-time. I also really enjoy music, cooking, spin classes, and sweating in a sauna.
