Who We Are

The UCLA Prostate Cancer Program brings together the elements essential to ensure the best outcome for each and every patient: a skilled team of physicians, the most advanced technologies available, and an innovative research program dedicated to finding the best ways to diagnose and treat prostate cancer.

Comprehensive Care

UCLA’s Prostate Cancer Program offers the latest and most advanced care for both early and late stage prostate cancer. Our physicians are trained in urologic oncology and have been consistently ranked among the top prostate cancer practitioners in the United States, and the UCLA Department of Urology has been consistently ranked #4 in the nation in the U.S. News & World Report annual survey. Additionally, our doctors are part of The UCLA Institute of Urologic Oncology (the "IUO") and its multidisciplinary team of world-renowned physicians and scientists who are working together to personalize patient care and to develop novel diagnostic tools and revolutionary  treatments for men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Innovative Diagnosis and Treatment

The UCLA Prostate Cancer Program offers a robust array of innovative diagnostic and treatment options to patients with prostate cancer, including MRI-guided biopsies, genomic testing, robotic-assisted surgery, high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), drug and radiation therapy, as well as clinical trials. Early detection is key to achieving cure in men with prostate cancer. At UCLA’s Prostate Cancer Program, our ability to identify men at an early stage is enhanced by our progressive prostate imaging program, which uses advanced MRI technology to find tumors, as well as the use of targeted biopsy. Targeted biopsy utilizes advanced MRI and PET imaging techniques to identify areas of the prostate suspicious for cancer, and then directly biopsies those areas. UCLA was one of the first institutions to develop and offer targeted biopsy and has published many of the seminal works on this technique.

UCLA urologists and UCLA Prostate Cancer Program doctors have been pioneers in developing new innovations and technologies leading to safer and more effective treatments for patients with prostate cancer. Using a multidisciplinary, translational approach to care, treatment plans are individually tailored to each patient’s cancer grade and stage as well as current state of health.

The UCLA Prostate Cancer Program is committed to rapidly translating basic research from the laboratory to the clinic in order to advance care for men with prostate cancer and, as a result, is one of only two centers in the Western United States to be recognized by the National Cancer Institute as a Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE). The UCLA Prostate Cancer Program is also a leader in providing clinical trial opportunities for men with all stages of prostate cancer, enabling our patients to have access to the newest and most innovative drugs and therapies. The results of these clinical trials will provide crucial information for the development of therapies that can improve the clinical outcome of patients with all forms of prostate cancer.
