About

Dr. Daniel DeUgarte is a Professor of Clinical Surgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and is the Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Harbor-UCLA.  He is a graduate of Harvard College and UCLA School of Medicine. He completed his General Surgery residency at UCLA followed by a Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at the University of Michigan. He then returned to UCLA, where he has been on faculty since 2007. 

Dr. DeUgarte is board-certified in Pediatric Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  He is also a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, the University of California Fetal Consortium, and numerous other surgical societies. 

His clinical interests include neonatal surgery for congenital birth defects including abdominal wall birth defect (including gastroschisis omphalocele) and congenital lung lesions (including congenital pulmonary airway malformation).  He is also surgical director of the UCLA Fit Program and performs Adolescent Bariatric Surgery.   Dr. DeUgarte also has vast experience in the treatment of common pediatric surgical conditions including hernias, chest wall disorders (including pectus excavatum and carinatum), and vascular malformations.

Dr. DeUgarte received a Master of Science in Clinical Research in 2013, and he has been a site investigator for several federally-funded studies.  His clinical research interests are in quality improvement, minimally-invasive surgery, enhanced recovery after surgery, post-operative pain management, patient-centered care, and global surgery.

 Since 2010, Dr. DeUgarte has led a Pediatric Surgery partnership to help improve the training of Pediatric Surgeons and improve the surgical care of children in the country of Mozambique.
