Global Health in The Division of Infectious Diseases
The Division of Infectious Diseases is extending the reach of our mission of advancing excellent patient care, research, and education worldwide through partnerships with academic and other institutions in low- and middle-income countries.
Faculty members of the Division of Infectious Diseases are currently engaged in clinical care and clinical training, conducting collaborative research projects, and supporting health systems strengthening in a number of countries including Malawi, Peru, and South Africa. Our model embraces the concept of decolonizing global health and has a focus on capacity building while prioritizing local leadership and ownership of activities, data, and programs.
Our faculty are engaged in activities related to a range of infectious disease challenges, including HIV, sexually transmitted infections, the intersection of HIV and noncommunicable diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and tuberculosis, among others. We are passionate about mentoring trainees with interests in global health and UCLA provides a multitude of resources to support this work, including two unique T32 opportunities (training grants), the David Geffen School of Medicine Global Health Program (which houses a seed grant and travel grant program), and Center for AIDS Research.
