Kavya Singampalli, Md, MS, PhD

Kavya (She/Her/Hers) was born and raised in southern California, before moving to the east coast for college. She completed her undergraduate and master’s degrees at Johns Hopkins University, studying bioengineering and biodesign, where she gained experience developing medical technologies for both local and global health settings.

Before starting medical school, she worked in consulting to identify clinical needs and systemic challenges that could be approached through medical device innovation. She went on to complete her MD/PhD training at Baylor College of Medicine and Rice University, where her PhD research focused on developing diagnostic technologies for tropical infectious diseases.

Kavya is excited to return home for residency at UCLA. She chose Med-Peds due to the flexibility of caring for patients of all ages, the breadth of training, and the continuity it offers. She is particularly interested in understanding how patients’ health is shaped by transitions in care, as well as the social and structural factors that influence access to care.

Kavya chose UCLA for its strong Med-Peds community, diverse clinical training sites and patients, and the incredible support for residents. Her evolving career interests include primary care, infectious diseases, global health, and the intersection of medicine, technology, and innovation.

In true Med-Peds fashion, she is excited to explore her options and figure out exactly how all ofthose interests fit together. Outside the hospital, Kavya is enjoying being near her family, trying new recipes with her sourdough starter, and exploring new hiking spots. She is currently bingingGilmore Girls.
