Pulmonary

Research within pulmonary medicine breaks ground on new treatments for asthma, COPD, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, lung transplantation, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary arterial hypertension and rare lung disease. Faculty also lead research that advances our understanding of the social, occupational and environmental determinants of lung health.

Critical Care

Critical care research paves the way for better outcomes for patients with life-threatening diseases and emergencies, such as sepsis, and acute respiratory diseases like ARDS. Investigators also study mechanical ventilation, ultrasound technologies for the ICU and post-ICU recovery.

Sleep Medicine

The UCLA Sleep Research Program and its affiliates house internationally renowned sleep researchers who conduct basic science, clinical, and health services research. UCLA has experts in fields such as effects of sleep on brain plasticity and the hypothalamic control of sleep-wake states, neural mechanisms of upper airway muscles, narcolepsy, neuroimaging in sleep disorders, and insomnia in the geriatric population and women.

Clinical Immunology & Allergy

The UCLA Division of Clinical Immunology and Allergy advances research to better understand immune system disorders and translate scientific discoveries into improved treatments for conditions such as asthma, food allergies, drug allergies, and primary immunodeficiency.
