About

Ian MacQueen, MD, is a Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and faculty at the Lichtenstein Amid Hernia Institute. He holds Board Certification in General Surgery and has specialized expertise in inguinal hernia repair with and without mesh, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and a range of minimally invasive hernia repair techniques via both advanced laparoscopy and robotic-assisted surgery. His clinical and research interests encompass all hernia types, including less common hernias such as hiatal, diaphragmatic, parastomal, flank, and lumbar hernias. He has extensive experience in complex surgical management of chronic post-operative pain after hernia repair, including treatment of nerve injuries and mesh complications. He teaches these subjects on a daily basis, he has lectured on them across the United States, and he participates in efforts to study and teach these techniques internationally. His publications include multiple book chapters and peer-reviewed articles on hernia repair, foregut disease, neuroanatomy of the abdominal wall and groin, and surgical management of chronic pain.
