Congratulations!
Congratulations to David Eisenman, MD, MSHS, for his appointment to serve a 5-year term on the Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

The Forum convenes public and private sector leaders to improve the nation’s preparedness, response and recovery from disasters, public health emergencies and emerging threats.  

 

DMPG Executive Committee Election Results
 
Drs. Ravi Dave & Lisa Skinner were elected as President (each a 6-month term). Dr. Magdalena Ptaszny was elected as Vice-President. Dr. Adam Cavallero was elected as Secretary.

New Appointments and Promotions
We would like to welcome our new faculty and congratulate those who have been recently promoted.  
 
Kimberly Cauley Narain, MD, PhD, MPH, joins the Division as Assistant Professor. She was also recently appointed to APHA Committee on Women's Rights.  Kim will be seeing patients in the Iris Canter Women’s Health Center  and will join our preceptors at Simms Mann.  Her research focuses on investigating the implications of health and social policies for health equity among women, individuals with low socioeconomic status and racial/ethnic minorities

.

Neil Steers, PhD, has been promoted to Adjunct Professor. Chi-Hong Tseng, PhD, has been promoted to Adjunct Professor. Weijun Zheng, DrPH, was 
awarded a Medical Education Fellowship.

Erin Noren, MD, MS
; Stewart Reed, MD; and Nathan Samras, MD, MPH, join the Division as Clinical Faculty.  Dr. Noren is interested in quality improvement in patients discharged from the hospital and transition of patients with congenital heart disease from pediatric to adult providers. Reed is interested in primary care, patient advocacy, and medical education.  Samras studies health care utilization patterns in primary care, quality improvement and analysis in primary care, and global health, particularly Central America. They will see patients at the Beverly Hills (Noren, Samras) and Burbank (Reed) clinics.
2017-18 Primary Care Journal Club
The first Primary Care Journal Club of the year took place the evening of August 22nd.  We were fortunate to have the lead author, Dr. Katherine Kahn, as a discussant for the article Dr. Neha Agarwal chose to present.  The next Journal Club will be September 19th at 6:15 pm, with Farah Abdi, Lovelee Brown and Rachel Dajani presenting at Ben Waterman's home.  All Faculty are invited to attend.  Contact Mina Ma for more information. 
Upcoming Events
The GIM-HSR Friday Noon Research Seminar returns from Summer break on September 15th with speaker, Dr. Alexander Young (Director, VA Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center; Assoc. Dir, VA HSR&D Center of Excellence; Professor, UCLA Psychiatry). 
 
This year's theme will be Clinical Medicine through the Health Services Continuum. Our seminar calendar with upcoming speakers can be viewed at uclahealth.org/internal-medicine.
