Frequently Asked Questions
Which type of care is right for you? Browse our questions and answers below.
-
You can choose the care option that fits your needs — whether it’s a same-day walk-in visit, a scheduled in-person or video appointment or a quick online E-Visit. UCLA Health offers flexible ways to see a provider when and how it works best for you.
-
Yes. New patients can book online with select primary and specialty care doctors or request an appointment through our online form. Returning patients can schedule through myUCLAhealth or by calling their clinic directly.
-
In-person visits are best for new patients, preventive care, chronic condition management, physical exams or when your symptoms require a hands-on evaluation or diagnostic testing.
-
A video visit lets you meet face-to-face with your provider through your smartphone, tablet or computer. It’s ideal for follow-up appointments, medication management, or nonurgent issues that don’t require an in-person exam. Video visits are also available for immediate care.
-
Many primary care clinics offer same-day appointments. New openings become available in myUCLAhealth at 7:30 pm the night before. You can log in at that time and book a next-day visit.
-
Yes. In myUCLAhealth, open your upcoming appointment and select “Get on the waitlist.” You can also call your clinic and be placed on the waitlist. If an earlier appointment becomes available, our team will contact you so you can move your visit sooner.
-
If you are unable to schedule a return specialty care appointment through myUCLAhealth, you can see if there's an option to request an appointment. If you don't see either of those options in myUCLAhealth, please call your doctor's office directly.
-
An E-Visit is an online questionnaire you complete about your symptoms in myUCLAhealth. A UCLA Health provider reviews your answers and sends a treatment plan — often within 24 hours. It’s great for simple, straightforward conditions such as pink eye, sinus problems or urinary tract infections.
-
A video visit is live — you talk directly with your provider in real time.
An E-Visit is completed on your own time through a secure questionnaire, without a live conversation.
-
Immediate Care is for urgent, nonemergency needs such as sprains, cuts, ear infections, fevers or upper respiratory conditions, such as COVID or flu, that can’t wait for a regular appointment. Walk-ins are welcome, and evening, weekend and holiday hours are available.
-
Yes. If you have a quick question about an ongoing condition, test result or medication, you can send a message to your care team through myUCLAhealth. Charges may apply. For new or worsening symptoms, it’s best to schedule an in-person, video visit or E-Visit so a provider can assess your condition.

If you're unsure or have questions, contact your primary care clinic if you have one. Another option is to call a UCLA Health customer care specialist at 310-825-2631. They are available weekdays from 7 am to 7 pm.
