UCLA Health Clinical Nurse Specialist Olena Svetlov has been named director of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ (AACN) Board of Directors.

Svetlov, who specializes in cardiology care at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, will serve as a director for a three-year term ending in June 2029.

The AACN is the world’s largest specialty nursing organization with 136,000 members across 170 chapters in the United States.

“We need the perspectives of those throughout AACN, the nursing profession and our communities to make sure the healthcare system we build today works for all of us,” said the association’s new board president Tonka Williams in a statement. “With ‘Every Voice. Every Story. Every Table,’ we can shape decisions so that they begin to reflect the patients we serve and the nurses delivering that care.”

In addition to her role on the national board, Svetlov serves as president of the California Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists and co-chair of the SoCal Society of Critical Care Medicine Education Committee.
