Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center designated a "Baby-Friendly Hospital" for exceptional care for breastfeeding mothers

The medical center is one of 405 nationwide recognized for providing breastfeeding mothers with award-winning care

LOS ANGELES, CA – UCLA Health announced that Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center has been awarded a prestigious designation as part of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and United Nations Children's Fund. The medical center's "Baby-Friendly" designation recognizes its quality care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.

The initiative, implemented by Baby-Friendly USA Inc., honors hospitals and birth centers that provide breastfeeding mothers with the information, confidence and skills needed to take care of their newborns. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center's induction makes it one of only 405 active Baby-Friendly hospitals and birth centers in the United States.

"UCLA strives to provide unparalleled care to patients throughout the entire birthing process," said Nicole Casalenuovo, perinatal unit director at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. "Our team's efforts in pregnancy, postpartum and infant care give families the tools they need to raise their newest members. We're honored to receive a distinction for our work."

Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center delivers about 1900 infants each year. According to the latest data from the California Department of Public Health, the medical center has the highest exclusive in-hospital breastfeeding rate in Los Angeles County, with 85% of newborns breastfeeding exclusively.
