About
Dr. Courtney DeCan is a Clinical Instructor within the Division of Clinical Nutrition.
Dr. DeCan's primary areas of practice are the treatment and prevention of obesity and diet related chronic disease. Her practice focuses on using nutrition therapy for the prevention and treatment of cancer, gastrointestinal conditions, obesity, obesity-associated diseases, and metabolic conditions including diabetes, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease. She prioritizes personalized nutrition and goal setting with patients along with problem solving healthy eating in our food environment today.
Dr. DeCan is a native of Butte, Montana. She received her medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed her residency training in a combined internal medicine & preventive medicine program at UCLA Medical Center. She also served as Chief Fellow in preventive medicine while getting her MPH degree at UCLA.
Dr. DeCan's research focuses on addressing health disparities in the prevention and treatment of obestiy and diet releated comorbidities in the safety net setting.
She has an interest in global health and has worked throughout Latin & South America. Outside of work she enjoys hiking, trail running, and live music.
