About
Dr. Birnstein received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Birnstein completed his gastroenterology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where he received specialized training in gastrointestinal complications of cancers and cancer treatments.
Dr. Birnstein is a general gastroenterologist practicing in Downtown Los Angeles. His clinical interests include gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, functional bowel disorders (functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome), gastrointestinal bleeding, gastrointestinal infections, colorectal cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic constipation, gastrointestinal endoscopy, acute and chronic liver diseases and liver cirrhosis complications. Apart from his clinical duties, Dr. Birnstein enjoys teaching medical students, residents and fellows.
