Howard Jen, MD MSHS is a pediatric surgeon who has joined the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA since 2017. Dr. Jen earned his B.A. in Biology at the Johns Hopkins University, and M.D. at University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and trained in pediatric surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital, specializing in minimally invasive surgery for infants and children. Dr. Jen is board certified in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
Currently the focus of Dr. Jen's research has been the application of clinical prediction models to pediatric surgery for congenital anomalies. Often these congenital anomalies are discovered in utero and careful prenatal counseling are required to prepare the parents. It is uncertain if the use of clinical prediction models during the prenatal counseling will change the outcomes of the infants and family. Dr. Jen is interested in developming novel prenatal clinical prediction models for congenital anomalies such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia and also the applications of such models in prenatal counseling.
