Jihoon Baang, MD

Jihoon Baang, MD, FACP, FIDSA, is Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at UCLA Health, with responsibilities spanning Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. His clinical and academic interests include multidrug-resistant organisms, antimicrobial resistance, de-implementation of unnecessary antibiotic use, diagnostic dilemmas in complex infectious diseases, and difficult-to-treat infections with limited therapeutic options.

Dr. Baang earned his medical degree from Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine in South Korea and completed his internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Before joining UCLA, he served as Associate Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Michigan Medicine, where he was inducted into the John M. Carethers Clinical Excellence Society and received the Making a Difference Award seven times. His career also includes international work as Medical Manager of a multidrug-resistant tuberculosis program with Doctors Without Borders in Armenia. A dedicated medical educator, he has been recognized with multiple teaching awards, including the I.W. Ginsberg Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching and two Outstanding Junior Faculty Educator Awards at Temple University.
