About
Dr. Goldin is a clinician-scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he serves as a Professor of Radiology, Medicine, and Physics and Biology in Medicine, as well as the Chair of the Department of Radiology and Executive Medical Director of Radiology at the UCLA Health System. Dr Goldin is Chief of Radiology at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center and Co-Director of the Computer Vision and Imaging Biomarker Program. He earned his MD and PhD from the University of Cape Town, trained in Radiology at St Bartholomew Hospital in London, and completed a fellowship in Thoracic Radiology at UCLA.
Dr. Goldin has held numerous leadership roles, including founding member of the Medical Executive Committee and former Chief of Radiology at Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. He played a pivotal role in establishing the department’s program at Santa Monica Hospital and expanding the community imaging outpatient practice network.
His research focuses on the development, validation, and clinical translation of quantitative imaging biomarkers and machine learning–based methods for diagnosing and managing lung diseases and oncology, with over 25 years of experience integrating imaging endpoints into multicenter clinical studies and NIH-funded clinical trials. He has served as a principal investigator or investigator on over 45 NIH grants, resulting in over 270 publications, 13 book chapters, and four patents. He has also served on numerous NIH review and study oversight committees.
As an educator and mentor, Dr. Goldin is committed to training the next generation of scientists, radiologists, and medical professionals at UCLA, having served on 21 postgraduate training committees for PhD and MD students. His dedication to inclusive excellence has led to the implementation of various novel clinical and educational programs at MLKCH. Additionally, he is a board member of the nonprofit organization Children of South Africa (CHOSA).
