Mehdi Farshchian, MD, PhD

Dr. Mehdi Farshchian is a board-certified dermatologist and Assistant Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in Santa Monica. He earned his medical degree from Hamedan University of Medical Sciences and completed his dermatology residency at Wayne State University, Michigan. Prior to his residency, Dr. Farshchian obtained a PhD in experimental and clinical dermatology at the University of Turku in Finland, where his research focused on identifying new biomarkers for the growth and invasion of squamous cell carcinoma of the skin.

After completing his PhD, Dr. Farshchian undertook a fellowship at a renowned dermatology research center at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he worked on developing innovative therapeutic treatments for squamous cell carcinoma in patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa, a severe blistering skin condition.

Throughout his residency, Dr. Farshchian continued his research endeavors, publishing more than 50 articles in top peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. His research contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards.

As the Director of the Contact Dermatitis Clinic at UCLA Dermatology, he is actively involved in the education of medical students and dermatology residents at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In 2024, Dr. Farshchian was honored with the Teacher of the Year Award by UCLA dermatology residents, recognizing his dedication and passion for teaching.
