About

Michael D. Roth, M.D., is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care, a member of the Interdepartmental Program in Molecular Toxicology, and serves as a Vice-Chairman for the Department of Medicine overseeing Research Compliance

Dr. Roth graduated with Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors in Biological Sciences from U.C. Irvine in 1979 and completed his M.D. at the UCLA School of Medicine in 1983, graduating with AOA honors. He also completed his specialty training at UCLA Medical Center with Board-certification in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine & Critical Care.

As a full-time faculty at the David Geffen School of Medicine, Dr. Roth is actively involved in teaching, research, administration and patient care. He is recognized nationally for his work in the fields of cancer research, applied immunology, developing new therapies for the treatment of emphysema and scleroderma-related interstitial lung disease, and for his work on the toxicology of inhaled substance abuse. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, Association for Cancer Research, American Association for Immunologists, Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, and the Jonsson Cancer Center/UCLA.

In addition to research and teaching, Dr. Roth sees patients with Pulmonary and Critical Care conditions at the Ronald Reagan-UCLA Medical Center and in the outpatient Pulmonary Clinic located in the 200 Medical Plaza Bldg.

Specific areas of clinic interest include chronic cough, bronchiectasis, COPD with emphysema, asthma, lung nodules, and connective tissue diseases that involve the lung.
