Sonal V. Phatak, MD

My name is Dr. Sonal Phatak. I practice endocrinology at UCLA Health in Santa Barbara. I have been board-certified as an endocrinologist since 2012. I enjoy being an endocrinologist as I get the opportunity to help patients manage various endocrine (hormone) conditions including diabetes, thyroid disease, obesity, osteoporosis, overactive parathyroid (hyperparathyroidism), PCOS, hypogonadism (low testosterone), adrenal, and pituitary conditions.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of California, Riverside in 1999. I then completed medical school at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in 2003. From 2003-2006 I did a residency in Internal Medicine at the Loma Linda University Health System. Then from 2010-2012 I did fellowship training in endocrinology at the University of California, San Diego Health System.

I have worked as an attending physician at several institutions prior to joining UCLA. Prior to endocrine fellowship training, I worked for 2 years in the emergency department at the Loma Linda University Veterans Administration hospital and also worked for 2 years as a primary care provider at the Loma Linda University Health System in Murrieta. Prior to joining UCLA Health, I spent over a decade at UC Davis Health in Sacramento where I served as co-director of the Endocrine fellowship program and oversaw the weekly endocrine fellowship continuity clinic.

I was born in Long Island New York and moved to Louisiana, Upstate New York, and Northern California before I found my way to Southern California at the age of 9. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, traveling, cooking, astronomy, and science fiction.

I am a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE).
