Zachary Jonathan Collier, MD

Dr. Zachary J. Collier, MD, MS is a fellowship-trained plastic surgeon specializing in burn care, scar revision, complex wound reconstruction, and critical care whose extensive global surgery work helped shape his practice and guide his vision for patient-centered care. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from the University of Virginia and his medical doctorate from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where he completed an additional research year in stem cell engineering for complex wound reconstruction. He completed 9 years of specialized training in plastic surgery (residency), burns and critical care (fellowship), and global surgery (fellowship) at the University of Southern California and Los Angeles General Medical Center.

Dr. Collier’s surgical specialties include acute and reconstructive burn care, complex wound reconstruction, and scar management for both adult and pediatric patients across all areas of the body, including face and hands. In addition to his focus on the treatment of wounds and scars arising from burns, he also specializes in the management of wounds arising from traumatic injuries, dermatologic conditions (e.g. Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, Hidradenitis suppurativa, hypertrophic scars, keloids), pressure ulcers, diabetic and vascular wounds, and cancer (e.g. skin, breast, radiation). Procedures he specializes in include skin grafts, scar revision, flap surgery, tissue expanders, negative pressure wound therapy, laser, and scar injections.

He is as equally committed to teaching as he is research. He has taught medical students and surgical trainees in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia as well as here in Los Angeles.
