The one-year ACGME approved pediatric imaging position at UCLA Health exposes the fellow to a variety of practice settings and the full scope of imaging modalities. Three dedicated, CAQ certified pediatric radiologists are on staff in addition to pediatric-trained technologists who perform the general imaging studies. Rotations in subspecialties such as pediatric neuroradiology are included in the curriculum.

Areas of practice include:

  • UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, a 100 bed, mostly tertiary and quaternary care facility, with general pediatrics, subspecialties, PICU, NICU and ER; all imaging modalities with state-of-the-art equipment available
  • 200 Medical Plaza – Outpatient pediatric specialty in Westwood, where fluoroscopy, CR, US, CT and MR studies are performed.
  • Santa Monica Hospital/Pediatric Orthopedic Hospital – offers 30 inpatient beds (NICU, PICU, general pediatrics) and the full array of imaging services
  • There is a Radiology Imaging Center in Manhattan Beach which offers a variety of imaging services, including pediatric US, CT, MR

All of the above locations are inter-linked by PACS, allowing centralization of study interpretation in Westwood and Santa Monica campuses.  Over 24,000 procedures are performed yearly, utilizing the above mentioned modalities, in addition to non-vascular pediatric interventional radiology.  Pediatric Imaging fellows rotate between UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital and 200 Medical Plaza locations, and are required to read cases from all areas of practice listed above.  Fellows participate daily in interdisciplinary conferences, are required to produce a clinical or basic science research project, and participate in teaching activities for medical students and diagnostic radiology residents.
