Mika Nagamoto, MSW
Clinical Social Worker
Responsibilities
As a Clinical Social Worker with the Simms/Mann UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology at the Bowyer Oncology Clinic in Westwood, I support patients and their families as they navigate cancer diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and other transitions throughout the cancer care continuum. I complete psychosocial assessments, provide counseling and support in the outpatient clinic setting, and connect patients and families with practical and community resources.
In collaboration with the multidisciplinary medical team, I help identify barriers to care, advocate for patients’ needs, and promote access to comprehensive, patient-centered support. I am honored to accompany individuals and families through the emotional, relational, practical, and existential challenges that can arise during cancer treatment.
Professional Experience
I earned my Master of Social Welfare from UCLA in June 2026, with a concentration in Health and Mental Health Across the Lifespan. I also hold a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA, with a minor in Global Health.
During my advanced practicum at Simms/Mann, I provided psychosocial assessments, therapeutic interventions, resource navigation, care coordination, caregiver support, and assistance with adjustment to illness across the cancer care continuum.
In my previous social work experience with Harbor-UCLA’s Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, I collaborated with interdisciplinary medical teams to advocate for patient needs, supported families in understanding and participating in treatment plans, and connected patients with appropriate resources. I also contributed to oncology research at the MT Group, supporting work related to early cancer detection and targeted treatments. Additionally, at Hillview Mental Health Center, I provided case management and mental health counseling to adults experiencing serious mental health conditions and other significant life challenges. These experiences have shaped my strengths-based, person-centered approach to care by honoring each individual’s identity, relationships, culture, and values.
Personal Interests
Outside of the clinical setting, I am passionate about making and moving. I recharge through rock climbing, backpacking, skiing, and spending time in nature. My creative outlets include cooking, painting, crocheting, sewing, and just about any other form of crafting.
