Message from the Vice Chancellor

UCLA Health Sciences is acknowledged as one of the world's finest educational, research and health care institutions. Essential to the organization's mission and reputation is the trust developed as a result of the efforts of the teachers, researchers, clinicians, staff and others who serve the enterprise and its mission. UCLA Health Sciences is committed to assuring that all its employees, faculty and staff conduct their daily affairs with honesty, integrity and in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations and with UC and UCLA policies and procedures. Our Enterprise Compliance Program is designed to give you the information and tools you need to understand both UC and UCLA Health Sciences standards for ethical and legal conduct in how we deal with each other, our patients, our community, other organizations and the government.

Workforce members need to know the laws that are in effect and how they relate to the compliance obligations that are part of their individual's job duties. By making each workforce member responsible for compliance with the laws, policies, rules and regulations in place, our institution is better capable of meeting its academic, clinical and research goals.   That is why it is important to maintain integrity in the way we do our work and the services we provide to all individuals who are served by UCLA Health Sciences.

As the rules governing our business become more complex, it is often difficult to know which choice is the right one. The UCLA Code of Conduct and the UC Statement of Ethical Values are meant to serve as a guide in to everyday ethical and compliance situations.  The Code of Conduct outlines ways to get answers to your questions and raise issues about our compliance activities.  Our core values must guide our continuing development as a highly ethical institution and our actions will serve as an example for other organizations to follow.

Our Enterprise Compliance efforts are overseen by the Chief Compliance Officer and the Health Sciences Enterprise Compliance Oversight Board.  The Compliance Office supports our program through educational programs, updates on changes to the laws and regulations that impact our operations, reviews to evaluate our compliance and investigations of allegations of non-compliance. We have established a variety of Compliance Committees to address the various components of our UCLA Health Sciences Compliance Program. Our culture of compliance should readily allow workforce members to raise compliance concerns with their supervisor and others in the chain-of-command. However, if a workforce member is not comfortable with that method, a Confidential Compliance Line (1-800-403-4744) is available to our UCLA community to report or raise compliance concerns in our organization.

Thank you for your ongoing support of UCLA Health Sciences' mission and values and its commitment to making the right choices.  It will take by working together; we will continue to build upon the Health Sciences' position as a leader in patient care, teaching, research and community service.

John Maziotta, M.D., Ph.D.
Vice Chancellor, Health Sciences and
Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

Compliance Hotline

The University of California established a Compliance Hotline to provide a confidential, anonymous mechanism to report potential compliance issues.

The opportunity to ask questions and raise concerns is an integral part of a successful compliance program. We support open discussion of ethical and legal questions and concerns regarding compliance issues.

About the Compliance Hotline

The Compliance Hotline is a 24-hour, 7 day-a-week resource for reporting potential compliance, legal, policy, or ethical conduct violations or concerns.

Individuals who call the Compliance Hotline may remain anonymous when submitting reports or concerns. Calls are not traced or recorded.

Obligation to Report

UCLA Health Sciences workforce members are required to immediately report possible compliance issues, improper government activities, or any activity that appears to violate the UCLA Health Sciences Code of Conduct.

You can call the Compliance Hotline at 800-403-4744 or submit a report online.

After reporting an issue or concern to the Compliance Hotline, callers will be provided with a “case number” should they wish to follow-up on reported concerns or provide additional information.

Reports to the Compliance Hotline are forwarded to the Chief Compliance Officer for evaluation and prompt action. A course of appropriate corrective action will be taken for substantiated compliance issues.

Those who make report in good faith regarding a compliance concern are protected from retaliation.
