Visitor Guidelines

Effective April 3, 2023

The below represents current visitor guidelines for all UCLA Health patient care areas.

Please note: 

  • Visitors will be required to wear a mask in all patient care areas.
  • If you are experiencing cough, cold or any symptoms of flu, COVID-19 or any infectious disease, please stay home.
  • If you've tested positive for COVID-19, please postpone your visitation until 10 days have passed.
  • We strongly recommend that all visitors are vaccinated and have all boosters for which they are eligible.
  • We strongly recommend that visitors refrain from eating in the patient care areas.
  • Children must be at least 6 years old to visit our patient care areas.
  • Children must be at least 12 years old to visit patient care areas in the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center NICU and the Ronald Reagan Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (6 East).

Visitor guidelines by patient population

Adult and pediatric inpatients (including shared rooms)

  • 2 healthy visitors at a time.
  • All visitors must be flu and COVID symptom-free, check in for badging, and wear a mask at all times.
  • Additional visitors at bedside for near death may be considered. Consult unit leadership.

Labor & Delivery patients

  • 2 healthy visitors at a time. 
  • All visitors must be flu and COVID symptom-free, check in for badging, and wear a mask at all times.

NICU babies

  • 2 healthy visitors at a time.
  • All visitors must be flu and COVID symptom-free, check in for badging, and wear a mask at all times.
  • Ronald Reagan NICU: Due to space limitations, children must be 12 years old to visit.

Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital patients

  • RNPH is permitting two healthy visitors per patient during each visiting period. Visitation cannot be split or shared between multiple visitors. Telephone calls remain available for those unable to visit in person.

    Unit specific visitation:
    • 4E: Monday - Friday: 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm; Saturday - Sunday and holidays: 2 - 4 pm and 5:30 - 6:30 pm
    • 4N: Monday - Friday: 5 pm - 6 pm; Saturday - Sunday and holidays: 4 - 6 pm
    • 4W: Monday - Friday: 6 pm - 7 pm; Saturday - Sunday and holidays: 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 7 pm
  • If patients are in a semi-private room, one patient will have their visitor during regular unit visiting hours and the other patient will have their visitor during the subsequent hour, to be arranged by unit staff.
  • Visitation outside of the established visiting hours are permitted at the discretion of the primary team and staff, and should be communicated to the front desk hospitality/security staff by emailing [email protected], or calling extension 79120.
  • Visitors must:
    • ​​​​​​Stay in the patient’s room while in the unit
    • Maintain 6 feet of physical distance in all areas, including the patient’s room
    • Wear a face mask at all times (provided)

Same Day Surgery patients

  • 1 healthy visitor at a time. Visitor will be assigned to a designated waiting room.

Emergency Departments

  • Ronald Reagan and Santa Monica Medical Centers: 1 healthy visitor at a time.
    • Pediatric patients: 2 healthy visitors/guardians at a time.
    • Visitors may be asked to leave if the department becomes overcrowded.
    • Visitors must:
      • Be flu/COVID symptom-free
      • Check in with security for a visitor badge
      • Wear a mask at all times
      • Stay in the patient’s room
    • Visitors with patients slated for admission must check in at the main lobby information desk to receive a visitor badge prior to going to the patient room.

Ambulatory clinic patients

  • 2 healthy visitors at a time.
  • All visitors must be flu and COVID symptom-free and wear a mask at all times.

Infusion area patients

  • 1 healthy visitor at a time.
  • 2 healthy parents/guardians allowed for pediatric visits.
