The UCLA MPGMG is comprised of four core sites: UCLA Medical Center and the Center for Health Sciences/Olive View UCLA Medical Center, the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, Harbor UCLA Medical Center, and the Anna and Harry Borun Center for Gerontological Research. As a result of generous philanthropic support, the MPGMG has been able to establish three awards recognizing excellence in clinical teaching and public facing community engaged research; innovation in population health, dementia, or advanced illness management; and a career of distinguished service to the MPGMG.

Arthur Cherkin Award

The Arthur Cherkin Award recognizes a senior faculty member who has demonstrated a distinguished career of service to the Multicampus Program in Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology (MPGMG). Recipients have made long-term, impactful contributions to the program.

This award honors dedication, leadership, and sustained commitment to advancing geriatric medicine across the MPGMG. Recent recipients include David Ganz, M.D., Ph.D. (2024), and Jonathan Wanagat, M.D., Ph.D. (2025).

Drs. Dan and Erna Osterweil Award for Innovation in Geriatric Medicine

The award highlights creative approaches that have been piloted and show strong potential for broader implementation or dissemination.

In addition to the formal recognition, recipients present their work at the UCLA Intensive Course in Geriatric Medicine & Board Review. Recent recipients include Patricia Harris, M.D., M.S. (2024), and Teresa Seeman, Ph.D. (2025).
